By analysing and measuring thousands of proteins in cancers, researchers aim to predict the most effective treatments for individual cancers.

Results from this world-first proteomics project, ProCan, are expected within five to seven years.

The technology will help clinicians detect and diagnose cancer, as well as determine treatment plan, within 36 hours. It will be particularly powerful for rare cancers.

Australian researchers are able to apply this cutting-edge science to fight cancers thanks to a $41 million boost from the Australian and NSW governments.

The NSW Government is investing $21 million in the project, while the Australian Government is contributing $20 million to enhance Australia’s international reputation as a cancer research leader.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said NSW is once again at the forefront of research and innovation.

“The NSW Government is proud to support the CMRI and the ProCan project that will support the work to ultimately crack the cancer code,” Ms Berejiklian said.
